Use Seachem Purigen to Remove Impurities from Aquarium Water

Maintaining ideal water conditions in a fish aquarium is a challenge. Unlike the open natural environments from which fish originate, fish aquariums are closed systems that accumulate waste products. As these wastes accumulate, water conditions deteriorate. This is why aquarium filtration is so important for maintaining good water quality. Filtration takes potentially harmful compounds and makes them less harmful, either by removing them from the water or by transforming them within the aquarium into compounds that are less potentially dangerous. There are many ways to provide filtration for the aquarium. One method is chemical filtration, which uses specialized materials or devices to remove or convert dissolved materials.
Seachem Purigen is a chemical filtration product. It is a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water. Purigen is available in prepackaged 100ml bags or in loose form. Seachem Purigen will:
  • Control ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds, with minimal impact on trace elements
  • Remove soluble and insoluble impurities from water
  • Significantly raise Redox
  • Clear haziness and polish water to unparalleled clarity
  • Darken progressively as it exhausts
  • Be easily renewed by treating with bleach and is designed for both marine and freshwater use

Why You Should Use Seachem Purigen in Your Aquarium

Nitrate occurs naturally in your aquarium as a byproduct of the breakdown of waste. The primary source of nitrogenous compounds is waste. Fish, corals, and even plants produce nitrogenous waste. This waste in the aquarium comes from feces, uneaten food or decaying organic matter. When too much waste is present in the tank’s water, this chemical compound can be toxic to your fish. Also, algae are more likely to form since nitrates fuel the growth of algae. If you have high nitrate levels, take action to remove the excess before it jeopardizes your aquarium. Purigen removes waste fast and removes it completely.

Directions for Using Seachem Purigen in Your Aquarium

Always rinse before use. Use Purigen in a fine mesh filter bag. Each 1 Liter treats up to 4,000 Liters for up to six months. Purigen will turn from its normal colour to a deep brown when it is exhausted. Purigen can easily be regenerated by soaking it in a solution of bleach overnight. For regeneration of Purigen, soak in 1:1 bleach to water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container, in a well ventilated area and away from children. Then rinse well and dechlorinate to remove any chlorine. Rinse well again. Original colour and full activity should now be restored and Purigen is ready for reuse.
The nitrate levels of an aquarium are a significant indicator of how well an aquarium is being maintained. If you truly want to create a suitable long-term environment for the fish to live in, it is important to maintain their nitrate levels. Seachem Purigen will help remove soluble and insoluble impurities from the tank water, thereby helping to provide the suitable environment the fish need.
